The Ukrainian tenor Taras Semenov (*1995) is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Opera at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig under Professor Caroline Stein. He previously completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of the Arts Bremen in the class of Professor Thomas Mohr.

Highlights of his repertoire include Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In concert, he devotes himself to a wide-ranging oratorio repertoire and has appeared with works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and Mozart.

A particular focus of his artistry lies in the art song. He has developed innovative Lied formats, including the requiem-like recital project Songs of Eternity and the travelling series Die schöne Müllerin – unterwegs, which brings Schubert’s cycle to diverse venues – this season ranging from Lübeck to Vienna.

Semenov has also participated in world premieres, including Mauser: Triptych at the Mecklenburg State Theatre, Gegen den Wind at the Kunst am Kai Festival in Lübeck, and Der verlorene Vater in Hamburg. He has received important artistic impulses in masterclasses with Christoph Prégardien, among others. Since 2019, his first vocal guidance and lasting artistic support have come from Espen Fegran.

In 2023, he was awarded a scholarship by the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation.

Der ukrainische Tenor Taras Semenov (*1995) studiert derzeit im Master Oper an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ Leipzig bei Prof. Caroline Stein. Zuvor schloss er sein Bachelorstudium an der Hochschule für Künste Bremen in der Klasse von Prof. Thomas Mohr ab. 

Zu den Höhepunkten seines Repertoires zählen die Rollen des Lenski in Tschaikowskys „Eugen Onegin“ und Don Ottavio in Mozarts „Don Giovanni“. Konzertant widmet er sich einem breiten Oratorienrepertoire und gastierte bereits mit Werken von Bach, Händel, Vivaldi und Mozart. 

Einen besonderen Schwerpunkt bildet für ihn das Kunstlied. Er entwickelte innovative Liedformate, darunter das Liederabend-Requiem „Lieder von der Ewigkeit“ und das Reiseprojekt „Die schöne Müllerin – unterwegs“. Letzteres bringt Schuberts Liederzyklus an verschiedene Orte, in dieser Spielzeit von Lübeck bis nach Wien. 

Semenov wirkte zudem in Uraufführungen mit, darunter „Mauser: Triptychon“ am Mecklenburgischen Staatstheater, „Gegen den Wind“ beim Festival Kunst am Kai e. V. in Lübeck und „Der verlorene Vater“ in Hamburg. Wichtige künstlerische Impulse erhielt er in Meisterkursen, unter anderem bei Christoph Prégardien. Seine ersten gesanglichen Impulse (seit 2019) erhielt er im bei Espen Fegran, der ihn bis heute auf seinem künstlerischen Weg begleitet. 

Für seine Arbeit erhielt er 2023 das Stipendium der Richard-Wagner-Stipendienstiftung.

Taras Semenov

The tenor Taras Semenov (28) was born in the Ukraine on 11 December 1995. Taras Semenov has made a name for himself in a variety of productions, most recently appearing as Lensky in P. Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" and Don Ottavio in W. A. Mozart's "Don Giovanni".

He began his vocal studies with Espen Fegran. His pursuit of artistic perfection led him to attend masterclasses with renowned singers and teachers, including Caroline Stein and Christoph Prégardien.

Semenov is open to different styles - even in 2023 he took part in two world premieres: Mauser: Tryptichon at the Mecklenburg State Theatre and "Gegen den Wind" at Kunst am Kai e. V. (Lübeck). His own conceptual works, such as "Poets.Love" and the Requiem Recital "Songs of eternity ", reflect his love of art song.

In 2023, Taras Semenov received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation. In November of this year, he will complete his bachelor's degree with Prof. Thomas Mohr at the University of the Arts Bremen and continue his musical journey at the HMT Leipzig.
